Ford has reportedly added a few numbers to its 2007 Shelby GT500. In addition to the '500' (horsepower) and '480' (pound-feet of twist) already reported, there's a new figure that stands out: $42,975. That's the top Stang's base price tag, including charges for destination ($745) and binge drinking tariff (gas guzzler: $1,300).
Units are expected to begin to ship to dealers no later than July, and the Blue Oval hopes to move between 8,000 and 10,000 examples per year.

Gotta say, $43K ain't that bad for what you get. Of course I'd rather buy an Elise for the same amount....
Za @ Jun 2nd 2006 9:52PM
Damn.
Howard Kerr @ Jun 2nd 2006 10:00PM
Like ANYONE ANYWHERE will be able to buy a GT500 for 43K.

A very reasonable price for the type of car you are getting... now, actually GETTING it for that price? Priceless?

Take a look at those dinky small tires handling that HP/Tq, not way. Add the crappy suspension and your asking for lots of crashes when this horse gets loose.
With a rag top its asking for more then car getting crashed and why cars like the Z06 do not even have a targa top
not important @ Jun 2nd 2006 11:09PM
jr has no idea what he is talking about, the rear tires are 284/40 18 eagle f1 supercars. this is alot of tire. your comment about the crappy suspension wins the award for the most ignorant comment of the day and on autoblog thats saying something.
DubbedinEnglish @ Jun 3rd 2006 12:12AM
Well that "crappy" suspension pulls .92 on the skidpad and 69.7 through the slalom.....
heres some proof:

The GT500 got owned by the Corvette in the latest Car&Driver. It was pretty even in acceleration. 4.5 to 60 for GT500 and 4.3 for the Corvette. But the Corvette beat it by 3 (THREE) seconds on the race track.
not important @ Jun 3rd 2006 2:55AM
of course the mustang got owned by the corvette, everything gets owned by the corvette, ferraris get owned by the corvette.
hans @ Jun 3rd 2006 6:30AM
well they are using a supercharged iron block v8 in that thing.
its going to be a fat heavy pig.
that is probably why the corvette killed it ona real track. a corvette is maybe 3300 pounds. the gt500 is probably pushing 3800.
Ed @ Jun 3rd 2006 6:54AM
$43 maybe in a year or so. Dealers are already bumping orders that won't pay the bloated markups on these cars.
For this much money, I can get a new 06' GTO, put a Magnuson Supercharger in it, smack down the GT500 all day, every day, and still have 7 grand left over for extras.
Bonez @ Jun 3rd 2006 8:11AM
$43K for a Ford? No way.
Steve-O @ Jun 3rd 2006 9:44AM
Ok Haters, give it up. This is a great car, by any measurement. Never mind apples & oranges comparisons of a Muscle Car to a Sports Car (*of course the Vette out-handles it!) It's got style, brute power, and it's reasonably priced.
Isn't this the type car everyone on this site screams for carmakers to produce? Funny when it arrives, you hate...
DubbedinEnglish @ Jun 3rd 2006 9:57AM
Well C&D cant drive. They got the car at the 1/4 mile at 13.1. Hotrod got the car to 1/4 mile at 12.25... and a 0-60 of 4.3 secs. Anyway you cant outrun the GT500 ina vette because you'll be worried about the roof flying off :-)
GhostDoggy @ Jun 3rd 2006 10:03AM
Bonez, "$43K for a Ford? No way." Have you seen what some people are paying for Harley Editions of F-150's?
All, regarding the 'vette comments ... how much did the Corvette in the comparison cost?
Also, being that I am not familiar with Ford muscl cars in general, what is the difference between this Shelby and a Cobra?
pd @ Jun 3rd 2006 10:57AM
Read the test in both Motor Trend and Car and Driver both said the car more a boulevard cruiser and not a track star. The car is grossly overweight and very nose heavy, pushing nearly two tons. The BASE VETTE flat out embarrassed the car, stating the 500h.p.is suspect, and the Vette weighs 616 lbs.less than the mustang! NO,I DO NOT OWN A VETTE!
DubbedinEnglish @ Jun 4th 2006 4:03PM
The C6 embarasses the GT500 the same wat the Ford GT embarasses the Z06. The two cars don't compare. However if it was EVO 9 or Subie WRX the GT500 WILL walk over them both.
skip froh @ Jun 5th 2006 10:48AM
It's too bad that an average guy won't be able to afford one. There are ads in Autoweek selling cars for $20,000 over sticker.
