From Russia with Love: GAZ Tiger-2 debuts at Moscow Motor Show

Gregory from CarDesign.ru tipped us off that Russian automaker GAZ unveiled a preproduction version of its Tiger-2 SUV at the Moscow Motor Show recently. The Tiger-2 looks very HUMMER-esque in profile, but has a face only a Russian drunk on vodka could love. And, are those... plastic wheel covers? The tigger is powered by a 190-hp diesel motor, which can actually get this mountain going 100 mph, but no more. The interior resembles the original HUMMER H1 with its obnoxiously wide central tunnel, but passengers will supposedly be treated to a smooth ride and plenty of comfort and convenience features.
With all the talk about when the Chinese will be flooding the U.S. market with inexpensive vehicles, one wonders if Russia's economy will ever be able to support the global aspirations of a native automaker like GAZ. Kinda makes you go... hmmm.

Looks like a Hummer H2 with a different front end.

first word that comes to mind: Tonka
and yes, those are hubcaps. I'm also spotting a removable faceplate stereo and more gray than martha stewart's natural hair color.
This thing is gonna be crap. As if we needed another monstrosity like the hummer.

Wow, that looks like the unlicensed Hummer replicas that appear in video games like Grand Theft Auto.

This is a faily historical company building this car (it was nationally owned for most of modern Russia's history) and was originally named ZIL and later changed to ZIS (the 'S' at the end stood for Stalin) and for most of their history basically created rip-off designs of American cars, but some were actually very luxurious and beautiful. Unfortunately, nobody in post-war Russia could afford them, and many of them ended up as ambulances (check out the ZIS 110).

Quite frankly it is a very nice vehicle, I would like to see how it performs.

It is the REAL offroader. On offroad it is better, than Hummer H2.For example, it overcomes ford up to 80 centimeters (In comparison with 50 at Hummer H2). Actually, such machines in Russia think out is better.
The prospective price in Russia - 50-60k$.

I think it's a decent effort. I do like the door sheetmetal treatment that surrounds the windows.

Ok so it looks like a hummer rip-off and it may have hubs... but thats now reason to run up and diss the entire country.... How many american cars aren't rip offs of european cars in some way, shape, or form ?
@Andrew making an arrogant statement like that only demonstrates your lack of knowledge about the Cold War and global political events of the time... Remember, NASA needs help from Russia to build a space station...so I wouldn't get too cocky..
As for the car... I'd love to have one... I mean, it will probably not cost nearly as much as a Hummer and that means that I would defenitly take it for some major offroad abuse....wether it comes back alive afterwards is another discussion, but it will finally be something people actually dare to use offroad, unlike the Hummer and Porsche Cayenne...

Very nice and original, I dig the center console especially. It has that weird Russian crazy machine look.

It's weird, even though I know NOTHING about Russia's domestic cars I alwyas think of them as solid as a rock, kind of like Germany.
Really the truck looks like they MADE it to do nothing but offroad, which is something we have lost in SUV's here in the states. In other words they have put "utility" back into SUV

It's pretty ugly and pretty apt to stay that way! It does occur to me, however, that the Ruskies have sufficient oil reserves to run a fleet of behemoths like this while maintaining their zero dependence on Mideast oil.
