The LX 470 is the grandest of luxury sport utes from Lexus. Today the Japanese luxury brand announced that an all-new LX will debut at the New York Auto Show in a few weeks. Dubbed the LX 570, the vehicle's new nomenclature clearly indicates a larger 5.7L V8 will replace the current model's 268-horsepower 4.7L V8. The 5.7L V8 will be the largest engine ever offered by Lexus, eclipsing in displacement even the 5.0L V8 producing 400 horsepower that will be used in the upcoming high-performance IS-F. We doubt the new LX 570 will produce as much as 400 horsepower, but expect something in the mid-300 horsepower range with torque even more abundant.
The current LX (shown above) is based on the more pedestrian yet still capable Toyota Land Cruiser, so one would assume that the debut of an all-new LX will also preview an upcoming replacement for the Cruiser, as well. We'll have to wait until we hit the show floor in New York for more details, which happens the first week of April.

Why would it have Mid 300 hp? The 5.7L in the Tundra already produces just over 380 hp, so I could see Lexus tweaking it to get close to 400 hp easily.
JapH8r @ Mar 13th 2007 1:41PM
Oooh, I can't wait to see how many vehicles they've copied this time. If it holds up to their most recent efforts, it will be another snore fest.
DarkKnight67 @ Mar 13th 2007 1:43PM
Yep, and with that great 5.7, you'll get a nice 13 mpg's. And people crap on GM.
Jruhi4 @ Mar 13th 2007 1:46PM
In the '07 Toyota Tundra (the other vehicle currently using that 5.7-liter V8), it produces 381 hp and 401 lb/ft of torque.
synergeist @ Mar 13th 2007 1:58PM
So much for Toyota's "most green automobile company" banner. No flex-fuel, no clean diesel... Toyota isn't nearly the innovator that they spin things out to be, either.
Guenther @ Mar 13th 2007 2:13PM
#2- Sorry- we didn't mean to wake you. No part of the Land Cruiser was ever meant to be exiting. It is meant to deliver the most capable vehicle for the most demanding conditions, while delivering the benchmark in dependability.
#3- If what we see in the Tundra holds, the Cruiser should actually get better mileage with the larger engine. I crap on a Kohler. The reason people crap on GM for investing so heavily in the large SUV market, is because this puts most of their eggs in one very unstable basket. Toyota has lots of things to fall back on if they fail miserably (they wont). Personally, I cant wait to see what the new V8 Diesel will do in the european market. We should expect power figures somewhere between twice that of the 2.2l 4cyl they now have, so 270-340hp, 450-600lb-ft of tourque.
Guenther @ Mar 13th 2007 2:18PM
Synergeist- read a little about the Toyota way some time. It allows innovation only when all other avenues have been exploited to the fullest.
Bryan @ Mar 13th 2007 2:22PM
They still make this thing? Why bother?
Hondacura @ Mar 13th 2007 2:31PM
I am shocked that Toyota is keeping this in the line-up. It does need a total redesign but from the spy shots from other websites it not changing much but headlights and tailights.
bob @ Mar 13th 2007 2:34PM
WOW, Looks like the old one. Wonder why they haven't applied the L Finesse brush to it?
J @ Mar 13th 2007 3:03PM
i think that the lexus LX models are not entirely necessary for worldwide luxury motoring, but the land cruiser, as a vehicle with a reputation and a dedicated customer-base, is EXTREMELY essential worldwide. Think of how many other countries, in Africa, the Middle east, and basically everywhere else, (not to mention the UN itself)that use the Land Cruiser as a government vehicle. It really has become a sort of modern Land Rover in its widespread use by countless countries with rough terrain that may need a capable off-road vehicle.
Rod @ Mar 13th 2007 3:15PM
This car has so many things wrong with it, I don't even know where to start.
First of all, it's grossly overpriced. How does it get any customers when one can almost get a Rover with that money?
Secondly, it's just gross to look at. I mean look at that thing- it's uglier than most of the American esuvees, and that's quite a distinction.
And the worst of all, it's an esuvee.
quagmire @ Mar 13th 2007 3:18PM
Bob, it looks like the old one because it is the old one. We don't know what the new one looks like yet.
Mick @ Mar 13th 2007 3:30PM
Straight up - I do not like Toyota products. Like Sony stuff, l find them over priced and under valued, due to name only.
But to most of the contributores above, PLEASE GIVE THEM A BREAK ALREADY!
If you took the time to read the diatribe, it's a picture of the "CURRENT MODEL".
h8terssuck @ Mar 13th 2007 3:56PM
all you babies that are whining about the new Lexus probably can't even afford to buy it new tires. take it for a drive, then post up. I bet your opinions would change. losers
and for your morons, the pic is from the current model. dumbasses
long live tut
Aaron @ Mar 13th 2007 3:56PM
well, I guess they may as well keep it alive since the warlords of africa need its non-drag queen and capable brother the landcruiser to mine blood diamonds and slaughter villages.
The LX likely won't carry any weight for sales anywhere but in North America where it will set golf course gravel roads on fire. Lord knows the 556 sold in america as of the end of Feb are making things sizzle.
Heydn @ Mar 13th 2007 4:00PM
It's about bloody time!!
Paul Tan @ Mar 13th 2007 4:02PM
guys, as mentioned in the post, the photo used is the current 2nd gen lx, not the new one. the new one will be revealed at the nyias.

CANT WAIT...
This is the best built suv you can buy...plain and simple...it is classic, handsome, and very good offroad...people buy it because Land Rovers are overpriced and have very poor reliabilty, and well anyone with real taste avoids the nig stigma of the cadillac...call jesse jackson if you have a problem with that..
Anyhow...My mom has had her lx for 3 years and has never had a single thing wromg with it (like every lexus we have had)
It is a bit expensive..but they hold their value well and last forever...
mikomi @ Mar 13th 2007 4:36PM
It's called a Landcruiser for a reason. It literally goes everywhere, almost. If I have to go on another expedition into the middle of the rain forest, I'm taking an LC79 or an LC100. Toyota built these things like tanks.
