Engine problems lead Honda to recall 165,000

Not long after announcing the largest vehicle recall in Chinese history, Honda announced today that it won't be leaving the U.S. out of its recall roundup. The Japanese automaker revealed a new recall for the United States that affects 165,000 vehicles that could develop engine problems from a sealer material that may leak onto wires in the engine and cause them to snap. Multiple complaints about the problem have been filed at Honda HQ, though none have led to crashes or injuries.
The affected vehicles include the 2005 Acura RL, TL and TSX, the entire 2005 Honda Accord lineup (include the Accord Hybrid), 2005 Honda Odyssey and 2006 Honda Ridgeline. There are other recalls being announced in various markets around the world for the same problem, but Honda declined to reveal how large the scope of this recall is in raw numbers. Clearly, though, this is the same issue that sparked the giant recall in China. So, in total, we know this engine problem accounts for a recall affecting at least 693,406 vehicles wordwide, but likely more.
If you think your vehicle is affected, you can call Honda at (800) 999-1009 for more information.

So much for, "if it wasn't for the 'User Manual' recalls Honda would have almost no recalls" for this year. So I guess that Honda is glad that the "User Manual" recall happend last year or else the recalls would be up like a thousand percent or more this year from last year.
You lose some, you (wait or hide to) win some.

No matter how many recalls H & T have, another foreign automaker will pick up the slack. The big three will NEVER comeback =)

What was that about last year and take away the Owner's Manual recalls and extremely low number of recalls? Hmmm. Honda probably loves those Owner's Manual recalls now. So it won't show as 1000% or more gains in recalls year-to-year as the headlines.
Actually, that is a damn good tactic. If you have really low number of recalls (because, say, you waited on purpose, like 2002-2006 vehicles getting recalled in 2007 instead of 2006 to keep the numbers down) then purposely mess up, like, over a million Owner's Manuals so that consumers start getting confused if Honda is just having another simple "Owner's Manual" problem again this year (that is why the number is so high) and, also, you never have upward gains in recalls year-to-year. I like your thinking, Honda. Damn good thinking on your part. Before you know it you will graduate to Toyota level of deception.
Sorry if this is a double post, my computer is acting up.

Lithous they already got to Toyota levels when they purposely spread out the transmission issue.

Does this recall effect Saturn? You know, the company that was created as GM put it, "To Out Japanese the Japanese" but puts Honda engines in some their vehicles? Not surprisingly, after doing so these vehicles got much better rankings. And Brian, why don't you check out who's powering every car at the "Grandaddy" of them all, the Indianapolis 500? This is a feat NOONE else can claim. Or are you all wrapped up in what the rest of the world thinks is a joke, NASCAR, the race where the cars run have nothing in common with the names they carry. Love those decals for headlights. Go Viagra!

i can tell you know little about nascar , viagra hasnt been in nascar in 2-3 years , do you even turn the tv and watch different types of racing ?

Japan only makes Toyota cars.
Honda is a disgrace. Honda's head quarters should be moved to Zimbabwe.
The only way Honda can save its face is by building a 2008 Transformers car, that can transform, and is street legal, and is nuclear powered.

The only ones that will really make hay of this are the anti jap car fanatics on here.
Do you really think this will affect Honda in any way? As long as they handle the recall in an efficient manner, this will be a non story and forgotten quickly.
Remember one thing, the VTEC engine technology has never FAILED. NEVER!
Also be aware that Honda is the LARGEST engine manufacturer in the WORLD.
Just wait till Honda's diesel engine comes out.

Why does my support for this country and our AMERICAN companies automatically make me a hillbilly redneck who watches Nascar? Personally, I think nascar is a bore. Real racing to me is straight line (lots of fun at the Fun Ford Weekend here in Houston!) In any event, Toyota and Hondas perfect image is finally getting the black eye it deserves. Crack all the jokes you want, it just makes you look like the fool in the end!
#5---The big 3 are already on the way back.
2004 F150--67,000 miles...transmission good (yes it is possible after 60k miles unlike your Honda!). No sludge (yes you too can go more than 1000k miles between oil changes!).

Who cares what powers the cars at Indy! Nobody watches it so nobody will even know that all the cars are Honda powered. The reason Toyota went into NASCAR is because people do watch it, fake headlamps and all. In time Honda will be in NASCAR because they always follow Toyota to anyform of motorsport.
I am also tired of the "the big three will never comeback" comments. You write these as if Ford and GM are not even around. Last I checked GM was still #1 one in the world (yeah, I know Toyota is comming, Ford is third in the world and second in the biggest automarket in the world the U.S. so to say that "they're gone" is pretty stupid.

Bob to think that a recall will not affect a company in any way is just ludicrous! And when has Honda handled a recall efficiently? Oh thats right, they had plenty of time to get it right with Civic recalls. LOL.

Maybe I should have bought a GM instead of my Honda; oh wait... I sell my car every 3 years and buy a new one, and at that rate I'd pay 3 times as much for a GM product.
I realize many of you redneck, buy-american, types think that the soul reason people buy Hondas is because they think they are SO MUCH BETTER... (and it's true... they are) but if you were a little more financially sophisticated you would know that a car only costs you the difference between what you buy it for and what you sell it for. In layman terms... You could drive a V6 Accord for what you pay to drive that Focus over the same period of time, and until you convince everyone that a used Malibu is just as valuable as a used Camry... I'll stick with the imports... thank you very much!

"Our American Companies"??? What the hell do you call an "American Car"? Would it be the 15yo Benz made in Canada called a Chrysler or the Stretch Mazda 6 made in Mexico called a Ford. Maybe it will be the Holden Commadore from down under which will be appearing at a Pontiac dealer near you soon. I'm serious about this... you lead me to believe that If Ford or GM is gobbled up by Toyota... you'll buy a Camry as long as it wears a bowtie? Then... you get mad when someone questions your logic???
:o
BTW these are all publically traded companies. I own Honda stock and I am as American as you are!

WHY do I have to be a redneck to buy American? ISNT is possible that the best deal is an american car or truck? Yes, I try to be patriotic and buy american and have on many occasions. I've also had occasion to buy Japanese and German. I dont call you a moron for blindly following the Honda or Toyota mantra, I just assume you dont want to take the effort to find a better car. There are many brands and many more models to fit the varying scenarios that play out when people purchase a car. The plain appliances that Honda and Toyota turn out are frequently the best car for an individual but not always. Get OVER it.

#14-you talk about being financially sophisticated-Shows how bright you are. Somebody that is good with money would never buy a new car every 3 years. It makes much more sense to run the car into the ground-that will just come sooner with you honda or toyota.

Hey Thomas, did you not read? AMERICAN COMPANIES! That would be: A company formed in the U.S. and is based in the U.S. A company that gives to its country and its mass profits come back to that country. Your pathetic comebacks shows your inferiority and your raging blindness. All the foriegn lovers are getting upset that their beloved car companies are averaging 2 recalls per week. I laugh!
